Well, I survived.

And I don’t hate my Y pool, it’s just sorta monotonous. I love the outdoor one, though.

Still, wouldn’t you feel sorta miserable if

(a) You were the oldest kid in the class

(b) A “going-into 3rd-grade” kid swam better than you (the teacher told him to do extra laps because his performance was “exemplary” and it was!!!)

(c) You’re the only girl in your class?

Well that’s me. You can tell me to get used to it and to stop complaining if you want, and it would make sense. You would probably be right, even. Still…I guess it’s ok, though definitely not my first choice of activities during summer vacation. (It’s about 20th on the list!!)

Horribly terribly horrifyingly electrifying swimming lessons

June 29, 2009 at 1:08 pm | In Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

Yes, I know how to swim!! I am NOT scared of the water-in fact I LOVE to swim. Don’t get the wrong impression here!!

No, I don’t like swimming lessons (duh!)

It’s not that they’re hard its just that:

1. I hate the indoor pool at our YMCA (no water slides and the deepest part is 5 feet in the pool that we take lessons in!!)

2. We don’t do anything but jump in and swim laps.

3. My mom doesn’t let us get anything from the vending machine afterwards except on the last day.

4. I can’t make friends in the class.

5. I don’t have a lot of bathing suits, and some aren’t very nice. (Some I love, but that’s about 3!)

And THE LESSONS START TODAY!!!!!

Any advice on how to survive the next two weeks???????

Dina, Maggie, and I set up a lemonade stand yesterday. It was sorta hot, so we did ok. Lots of the neighbors walked over, of course our parents got some, and some adults also pulled to the side of the road to buy some. We also made brownies (by ourselves, including the oven!!!!), which helped quite a bit. We made $9.66. We each got 3 dollars and Susanna got 66 cents because she helped us clean up a little. There was one guy on a walk that forgot his wallet at home. We waited quite a while for him to come back-he said he would-but finally we had to close down. If by any chance that guy is reading this, sorry about your lemonade.

fun times aka a stay-up-over

Typed by Molly, dictated by Dina

Ha ha, very funny, ya right. These were just a few words that were spoken at our sleepover, or rather stay-up-over, last night.  We had lots of fun. We went practically crazy, drinking lots of things to keep us awake and giggling. Turns out that we could have giggled enough without that stuff.  I bet you’re wondering about lots of stuff. Well, me and Molly and Maggie had a sleepover last night.  After the showcase game,we had lots to talk about-then just plain silliness erupted. You wouldn’t believe what we talked about, so I’m not gonna tell you. :-P :-) When we went to bed at midnight, we couldn’t get to sleep. Finally we fell asleep. We woke up to the sound of – guess what – Susanna and Lucy talking. It was only 7:00 am! Sleeping in? No way.

We had chocolate chip pancakes with whipped cream for breakfast. They were really yummy. Then my mom took us out to Flippin’ Pizza (see the post “Flippin’ Pizza”) for lunch. Then we went to Molly’s house. We made brownies for our lemonade stand. Then I wrote, well, am dictating this post. Who knows what will happen next?

The showcase game was fun.

As in every showcase game, there were supposed to be thunderstorms in the afternoon. Lucky us. Last year the game got called off then rescheduled because as soon as everyone got there, it began to rain. Rip-off! But this time, miraculously, the storm blew right past us. I heard many reports of bad thunderstorms in other places.  The game got rained on, but it felt nice.  The score was close. In the 4th inning, my friend Dina played first. She helped us get some of the outs in that inning.  In the 6th inning, I pitched. I caught the ball for the last out. We lost, however. The score was 11-10.Dina says that “every other time we won! It was just that we wore white shirts this time, and every other time that we won we wore purple. I think the shirts are to blame. Everyone else said they wanted white shirts cause it would be hot and white does not attract as much heat as dark colors. I yelled purple! Oh well…” Well, it WAS supposed to feel like 99 degrees, Dina!

It was a lot more fun than the other games. Those times we creamed the other team. Now we got involved in this game. I had fun. After all, that’s the point-to have fun, right? Plus we did pretty good.

Showcase Game

Today is my showcase game.

It is like the championship game, except that there are 4 teams in Clinic, so 2 teams play against 2 teams. We are paired with the Yankees this year. The Dodgers are playing with the Phillies. Only the best girls get to play in this game. The coach of every team picks girls for the  combined team depending on their ability to catch a ball, throw a ball, and hit balls often.

Only the best players from the Yankees were picked also. We had a practice on Tuesday then a practice on Thursday. My dad says that I may play 1st base for at least 1 inning.  I am very excited for tonights showcase game. My dad is the assistant coach. The Yankee’s coach is the head coach of the team that  the best players from the Yankees and the best players from the A’s (Athletics) make up. I am glad that we are playing with the Yankees this year.

In the showcase game we are allowed to score; also some girls will be pitching.

Yesterday my mom took me and my sisters to the YMCA pool. They have some water slides that looked fun to me, but I had to pass a swim test to go on the slides and to go in the pool without an adult. If I passed, I got a green wristband so that the lifeguard on duty at the slides knew that I could go on them. To get the wristband, I had to swim a length in freestyle and tread water for 1 minute. My mom told me to ask a lifeguard if I could take a test. Since my family is new to our YMCA, we were surprised to learn that they ran the test at specific times. The next time was 2:00 pm. It was about 1:33 then. My mom bought us ice cream bars. Soon it was 2:00. About 10 other kids were waiting to take the test. Finally, the lifeguard came over to watch us. I passed the test. I got my wristband, then went down the slides again and again until it was time to go. Also, I saw my friend Dina, who goes to camp there, in the afternoon. I really like our Y pool.

Hermit Crab Havoc!

Two nights ago, Gloria, Susanna’s hermit crab, was trying to climb out of the cage that she shares with 2 other hermit crabs! In the winter, we install a lightbulb in the cage for heat. When we take it out, it leaves a hole big enough for a crab to climb out of. However, it is in the center of the cage, so it is hard for the crabs to reach it. Gloria was hanging upside down on it when I came downstairs after getting ready for bed.My dad was already there, trying to pull her off, but she wouldn’t budge. So my dad flipped the lid upside down on the windowsill, thereby making Gloria right side up, and also took all the shells, crabs, and all of the fixings in the cage out too so that he could change the sand (this is how you clean a crab cage; by changing the sand, which is putting new sand into the habitat and taking out the old sand.) Of course he suspected that as soon as he went away to get sand, Gloria would start crawling away. So he told me to watch her and also to put the other two crabs, Mary Beth II and Shelly, in a small container so that he didn’t pour sand on them. I got the job of doing this. As soon as he went into the garage to get the sand, Gloria started crawling away. Quickly, I trapped her by putting the crab “hut” (an imitation of half of a small coconut which the crabs go into for shade, but which can be easily picked up by humans) over her and then blocking the entrance with a thing that the crabs climb on. Finally, she let go of the lid. I then grabbed her and put her in the container with the two other crabs. Done! But it was fun to watch the crabs as, finally, they were released into their new habitat. We (my dad and I) put the hut and the things to climb on back inside, along with the shells that they move into. The crabs scampered around until I went to bed, investigating all their surroundings. Yesterday they were running around again. It is really very amusing to watch them run around, over each other, over the shells, over the hut, climbing on their things that are made for that very purpose (they are made of wood, I don’t know what to call them!), and running around very fast.

I’m back. And with lots of things to write about, too. I think that I’m gonna write this blogpost in journal format. You know, the date, then writing.

Friday
Turns out that I didn’t have practice today. Dad and me went to our normal practice place for softball practice, since we thought there was practice. We didn’t get a call that let us know about the fact that practice was canceled due to my coach’s daughter’s dance recital that night. So anyway, we went to the park and waited for somebody else to show up. While we waited we practiced pitching. Finally, when it was past 6:00, the time our practice should have started, my dad and I realized that there was no practice. So we practiced for a little while more, then we went to Grammie and Granddad’s house. My dad dropped me off. Grammie assumed that I would like some ice cream to cool off, and she gave me some. That night I slept in my uncle Pete’s old bed.

Saturday
In the morning, Grammie and I went shopping for some pink yarrow to put in her garden. After lunch Grammie, Granddad and I went to my game. Today was my game. I pitched in the second inning and did ok, though I have a lot to work on. I found out that I am in the showcase game-only 6 players from the team play in this game. I got into it last year, but I am really happy that I got in this year too.

Sunday
I went to Nana and Pap-pap’s church today. After church we went to my 2nd cousin Carter’s birthday party at a playground. It was fun. Not a lot happened today.

Monday
Don’t have much to write. I am having fun at Nana and Pap-pap’s house. I hope Mom and Dad are having fun too. I watched a lot of TV today. There isn’t much to do, since it rained a lot.

Tuesday
Same routine as yesterday. Again, not much to do.

Wednesday
We had pancakes for breakfast this morning. They were very good. I’m still wondering whether they were made from a mix or not.

Thursday
Tonight’s dinner was really good. I love Nana’s meals.

Friday
Tonight was really fun! We went to McDonald’s for dinner. Later we went to the elementary school’s playground and played for a while. When we got home, Pap-pap let us drive his riding lawn mower for a bit. I had a blast this evening!

Saturday
Today was spent packing up all our clothing and other accessories. Today we did not do a lot of things. For dinner, we had my favorite meal of all time: mashed potato casserole with ham, sausage, and green beans. That was a very yummy meal.

Sunday
Mom and Dad picked us up today! They came around 11:00 am and gave us presents from Mexico, and showed us pictures of Mexico. We ordered pizza for lunch, then we were driven home by Mom and Dad.

That’s what happened on my vacation.

Well you have probably already figured out that since I will be going to my grandparents’ for 9 days I will not be able to blog for 9 days (my grandparents don’t have Internet access in their home). :-( But you better be ready because I am going to unload 9 days’ worth of news on this blog afterwards! So no more blogging for 9 days…but there will definitely without a doubt be more after that. :-P :-D

Bye until next Monday!
