goodbye for a while

As you have read in my posts, I am going on vacation starting on Saturday and staying for a week. That means I might not be able to post on this blog. (sigh) My dad might bring his laptop though, so if I can use it, then this post wasn’t necessary. But anyway, you get my point. I am going to have fun at the beach but I will still wish I could write here. So goodbye for a while!
my 3rd (or is it 4th?) VBS post

Well, we had water day today! After our morning assembly and finishing our worksheets we went outside. I must say it was pretty cold, but we played boys vs. girls in water balloon/ those little pool ball thingys pelting. (Did you get that??) Anyway, someone got me good below my neck. So for revenge I threw some balls at about 6 suspects, which was actually really easy. (Boys are good at aiming; girls are good at dodging. I struck a LOT of dodging poses today. ) Of course, they ended up teaming up to throw the balls in fastpitch mode at me for revenge; half the balls missed me. I was glad that I had started jogging in the morning the past week because I needed to be really fast to get away from them. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not chubby; I just need to keep up my reputation of fastest girl in the class next school year. Anyway, when it was time to go in we all got sprayed off, then went to snack, where we ate some Jello (again!), fruit rollups, and chips. I really really really (did I mention REALLY?) like VBS this year.

Fun! Fun! Fun! Yay! Fun! Fun! Fun!
Yes, I just got back from VBS, or as Lucy fondly calls it, BBS. It is fun, but it is also like jampacking all subjects from one school day into 3 hours! Yikes! My team, the Red Trekkers, is in 1st place for points. Sports is my favorite part of the day. Yesterday we played kickball (boys vs. girls) and got clobbered, but today we played dodgeball with mixed teams. However today we ran out of time, so it was a stalemate. I believe I was the only surviving girl on our team when the game ended, but I can’t be sure. I LOVE DODGEBALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had SO MUCH FUN today!!!!!!!!!! Did you have fun Payton? I absolutely LOVE BBS! (Ooops, I hear Lucy say it so much that I called it that! LOL!)
a (cold) midsummer night’s dream

My mom took me and Maggie to a play of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” It is a comedy, and my mom had heard that this version was particularly funny. So she took me and Maggie to see it. I thought, Shakespeare=BORING!! The humor is probably only gonna make sense to my mom, plus they are gonna talk with words that I don’t know the meaning of, plus the characters are from ancient Greece. Their costumes are gonna be SO boring, I’m guessing! WRONG! I understood all the humor, and the costumes were definitely not what you’d expect. It was really fun, plus we stayed up later than normal. Thanks for taking us, Mom! (I know you are reading this.)

I just looked at all my posts. This blog is around 2 years old! I just can’t believe how much my writing and spelling has improved! Most of my early posts were very short and had other mistakes, but my posts now are much better (compared to my first 10 posts.) I can’t believe that I have kept up this blog for so long! And I am so grateful to everyone who visits and has visited this blog regularly for 2 YEARS! Thank you so, so much for visiting and commenting for all this time!

From Monday to Friday next week, my family will be going to VBS at our church. I love our theme this year: Upward Bound. It is like a hiking theme. We’ve had an Olympics theme, an undersea theme, and another theme that I can’t remember. So anyway, my cousins are going too, and so is my friend Sarah, and my friends Annika and Chloe will be there. My friend Anna Beth is helping out with Lucy’s class, my aunt is helping with the arts and crafts part of our day, and my mom is just helping out wherever she is needed. Oh,and also Annika’s mom is teaching our class, and our regular Sunday school teacher is helping her. I’ll see a lot of people that I know. (Fifteen, because I know myself and am counting myself!) I am really happy that we can go this year, because normally we have our beach vacation at the same time as VBS. But this year we got lucky.I don’t remember too much about it, only that it is from 9 to 12 and that I LOVE it! Maggie isn’t so enthusiastic. I just can’t wait till I pass 7th grade, so I can help out with the classes instead of being taught.
the days in summer when you feel like you are being boiled alive strike again

Seriously! I know I said I wanted it to get hotter, but it’s, like, 90 degrees, and my mom says we can’t turn the air conditioner on! Just a little thought bouncing around in my mind.
breaking news: tricky lobster detected at grocery store on July 15
July 17, 2009 at 11:01 am | In family, funny scenes | Leave a CommentTags: grocery store shopping, lobster
Two days ago my mom and my sisters and I went to the grocery store. After we went to the deli we went to look at the lobsters that the store keeps, alive, til they are asked for for a dinner. Lucy discovered that the rubber bands on one huge lobster’s claws were gone and promptly told the worker behind the counter. She took one look and grabbed him out of the cage. It really was a sight to see, so of course we hung around and watched. He gasped for breath while the lady was finding rubber bands to put on, and after a while Lucy, Susanna, and Maggie thought it was dead. When it finally had some rubber bands on its claws, the worker put it back inside the cage, where it promptly reassurred my sisters that it was, indeed, alive, by doing a couple of back flips. Well, since the show was over, we headed towards the cash register, all the while chuckling about “the story we had to tell Daddy.”
Beach Vacation, Part 4

Well, where was I? Hmmm, let me check…Oh yes. Payton and I snuggle down under the covers, giggling, laughing, and doing everything that 9-year-olds are prone to do when left in a bed in a room by themselves. But finally (aka at 11:00 pm) we go to sleep. When we wake up, we pinpoint IMMEDIATELY the sound that took us away from our sound slumber: Susanna and Bradleigh running up and down the hall, screaming. Our door was left open in the night, so the sounds of screaming woke us up. Peaceful, huh?
We get out of bed to get dressed, and run upstairs to eat our breakfast of Lucky Charms. These are a special treat for us, only eaten at the beach. Then we get ready. Get ready for the beach, I mean. We slather on sunscreen, put our bathing suits on, pack our tote bags up, and all the other stuff we need to do before heading out,and beg the adults to do the same. We all head out to the beach. The adults set up the chairs while the kids play in the ocean. Finally it is time to go back to the house for lunch. We repeat the morning’s activities after we have finished our meal, then we go out again. This happens pretty much every day, except for two days. On the first day, we go shopping. Well, at least the girls do. That includes my mom and and aunt, and Lucy does not come with us; she is napping. We browse all the stores, looking for great souvenirs. The second day,we all go to an amusement park. When you are driving up to it, the first thing you see is the Viking Ship, the ride that I absolutely refuse to go on. I went on it once, and I felt like I was gonna get dumped! Maggie and my dad loved it, though. I like the Bumper Cars the best. Some times me and Payton go together; normally, my dad takes us around, and we meet everyone else sooner or later. It is sorta small for an amusement park. Around dinnertime,we eat out at a pizza place (not the exact same one, but it has the same name.) After that we sometimes go get a dessert, then we go back home. Also, Lucy’s-and Paige’s, my little cousin’s, birthdays fall on our vacation, so we will have some fun on their birthdays. When a week has passed we go home. Our family stops for lunch where my mom used to work, then we continue home, where my friend Dina meets us. That’s my vacation!
Beach Vacation, Part 3
July 15, 2009 at 11:01 am | In family, summer activities, vacations | 6 CommentsTags: beach, house, ocean, Part 3, trip, vacation
As soon as the car stops in the driveway of our beach house, the kids unbuckle, yell at their sisters to get out of the car, and as soon as they are out of the car, run like lightning into the house. “Safe!” we gasp. (We are happy because we have escaped the clutches of our dad making us unpack.) Well, that sure was said too soon. “Get back here!” Dad yells. Grumbling, moaning, and whining,we go back to the car and slowly empty out its contents. Then we grab our bags, put up our room signs, and talk with our cousins. That is,while we unpack, we talk. I share a room with Payton. I am gonna be weighed down this year with stuff. Anyway, after our clothes and other necessities have been placed in the dresser, we beg our aunt and uncle (our cousins’ parents) towalk with us down to the shore. What a sight! The sand, which is burning hot at 3 in the afternoon, is sprinkled with tide pools, shells, and seaweed. But that isn’t what we are looking at. We are looking at the ocean! It is simply amazing-waves crashing, crashing, at our heels. Well, that speechless moment is over quickly. Everyone (except the adults) runs and splashes in the ocean. It feels great to everyone’s feet after being in the car for 3 hours! We always beg to stay 5 minutes longer, then 5 minutes longer again, and, well, you get the picture. But finally we have to go home for dinner. The adults divide up the dinners, like this: a couple does 1 meal, another couple does another meal, and the last and unfortunate couple has to stand by the stove and make 2 meals. Who is that unfortunate couple, you ask? Well, it’s my parents this year. And I know we are staying 7 nights, so just 4 meals doesn’t add up. But wait-one night we go out to dinner, one night we order pizza, and one night we have leftovers. After our dinner of I-don’t-know-what-it-is-for-this-year-yet,Maggie and Paige, Susanna and Bradleigh, get ready for bed. But not Payton and me! We stay up for an hour longer, playing games, watching TV, and such. One night last year there were fireworks. Payton and I were in bed, but we had barely gotten in, so when we heard the fireworks and the ooooohs and aaaahs from the grownups we walked right out and watched. And they didn’t send us back to bed! Wait for part 4 for the next week’s description.
