Halloween

I CANNOT BELIEVE that I didn’t mention this! I was just typing random stuff in the search bar and a post from Nov. 1, 2oo7, came up – about Halloween! And I was like, oh, my goodness, I totally forgot that! So, about Halloween.
I was Anne of Green Gables. I really, really, REALLY looked like her – complete with seven freckles. (It’s not like I needed them, though, since I already have TONS, but my mom said “It’s Halloween. You’ve got to dramatize!” and she put them on with eyeliner. Dramatize, shramatize. ) I even had a “carpetbag” which I used to carry my candy.
Speaking of candy, I got around 10 full-size bars. One lady came out to her curb after it started raining hard and everybody had gone home and gave us all her left-over fullsize bars. It was awesome!
I had Sarah over for the night. That was fun, too.
Well, that’s it for now. I gotta go.

PS.Why did I sign my name? Wait, why did I write PS.? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!
Am I in a hospital or something?!

There’s a reason for that title. Honestly, I mean it!
Today it was just my mom and me at church. That was awesome, but that’s not really my subject. That means…tadadada…everyone else was home sick (except my dad, of course. He was watching my sisters.). I mean that they were at home being sick, not that they were homesick. Just so that’s clear.
Lena has had a fever and has been out of school since Wednesday. Susanna just got a fever yesterday, and Lucy had a bad cold this morning. Normally Lucy would be going to church, but hey, there’s two others home, just leave her here, right? My poor dad.
I’M TEN!!!!! :-) :-)

Wow!
My birthday was yesterday. I had pizza and Caesar salad for dinner, a great big cake at school, and apple pie for dessert at home. I got some really nice presents, too.
Thanks Mom, I know you’re reading this,(she’s out in the kitchen bugging me to write a post!! ROFL!! (rolling on floor laughing) ) and thanks for keeping it a secret Lucy. So, I got a watch (with a peace sign in the middle. I <3 peace signs! Did that heart turn out ok? I also got a bracelet from Justice (the watch was from Justice too) and a beading kit with teal, green, and blue beads. I just made some earrings and that’s what I’m wearing! At 11:30 my grandmother’s taking me too…guess…Justice (and Bath&Body Works, too)!! I’m so excited! I have a family party today at 4:00. I’m having a great 10th birthday!!

As I do every year, I have been working on an essay for Creative Communication. I believe it’s ready to share now. It is ready to be read…so now you can read it.
Fun at the Farm
Last summer, my parents went to Cancun, Mexico, for a week. They left my sisters and me at my grandparents’ farm. I’d visited before, but had never stayed for a week. At the farm, there are crops like corn and wheat. I didn’t know what I’d be doing to help out. I thought maybe I’d be cutting the wheat! I didn’t, but I learned a lot about farm life.
Once, my grandfather took us along when he returned a combine harvester to a neighbor. I stood up, since there weren’t any more seats. I loved the experience, though it was scary because we were up high.
One hot Sunday, we got some yummy ice cream. There was a mini-zoo with fascinating animals, and we watched them after we ate our ice cream. My favorite was the bear – though it was sleeping, its size and beautiful black color were amazing.
My farm trip was important to me. I learned that if you don’t have something, you make do with something else. Without Internet access, I read Uncle Tom’s Cabin. I enjoyed it, since some of it took place on a plantation. I had fun with my grandparents.
I was excited to see my parents! They brought us presents from Cancun, such as change purses and jewelry. We enjoyed my dad’s photographs. There were photos of the Chichen Itza ruins, the remains of ancient Mayan temples. I would like to see them someday.

My mom’s cousin’s wedding reception is today. The couple’s names are Andy and Sabrina. It is in our Aunt Sally’s backyard. Our whole family is going to be there. This includes my cousins, aunt and uncle, grandparents,great-grandmother, Uncle Pete, Carolyn, and Zander. Andy and Sabrina got married last week,I think. I don’t know where they got married. My mom doesn’t know either. So that is basically what is going to happen today in my family.

Do you know what Boggle is?
It is a fun word-finding game that my dad, Lena, and I play all the time after the little ones are in bed. Normally my dad creams us, but last night I won. I found 4 five-letter words in one round. (Five-letter words are worth 2 points instead of the regular 1 for 3-and-4-letter-words.) I was so excited! I won the round. The score was : Lena, 1; my dad, 24; and me, 29. This is the first time I have won a game against him!!

It’s Wednesday, our last day of babysitting Zander.
At least he’s still here for today! I am typing this in our living room and pausing every five seconds to look at himhAt the moment, he is sucking his knuckles and examining the ceiling lights. He is also showing some interest in the piano and school uniform storage boxes. Oh great-he is crying. Gotta go comfort him. Ok, he’s fine. Back to the blog. He’s crying again, but anyway, when he is well-tempered and smiling, he looks like this:
His brown eyes are open wide and he has just the teeniest hint of a smile on his face. He always has this little rooster-tail sticking up on his head, too. He also squirms a lot when he is happy.
Now he is being fed by Lena. I fed him yesterday. He looks so cute!!
Babysitting Zander

Ok, fine. I’m not old enough to babysit by myself by any stretch of the imagination. (I am going to start when I am 11 or 12, which is around a year to two years away.) But Zander (I presume you all know who he is; however, in case you don’t, he is my little baby boy cousin, born May 21 at 6:22 am. He is so CUTE!!) is coming to our house Tuesday & Wednesday so that the girls in the family can watch him while his parents are at work. While Maggie and I were at camp last week, my mom, Susanna, and Lucy got to babysit him, but now we all are going to be at home when he comes. My mom says I am old enough to do certain things with him, like feeding him, that Susanna & Lucy can’t do. Maggie can, though. (Note: I am now going to call Maggie “Lena” from now on; it is easier to type.) I love him SO much! He likes me, too-he calms down when I hold his hand.I can’t wait to watch/babysit him!!
back from camp

I am back! And I am just chillin’ for the rest of summer vacation, so I am going to keep blogging from now on. I had lots of fun at camp! Being out in nature was great, and so was the food.
I was having so much fun there, but I was definitely ready to come home and take a good long shower. Lots of my friends were there, though, and that was good.
I earned my Cardinal Rank and won the weekly Sword Drill this year. I got a pencil caddy for winning the Sword Drill.
My four electives were Archery, Bible, Drama, and Boating. I passed them all. I got ice cream every day and got a root beer float on Friday. I saw lots of old friends and new friends during my electives.
(See 2008 Archives and scroll down for some other posts about camp.)
